Title: Allegheny Mountain Author: John Hesselbein Publisher: John Hesselbein Reviewer: W. H. McDonald, Jr. – AAA Founder Fiction that is based on Real Memoirs Author John Hesselbein’s debut novel “Allegheny Mountain” is not your typical fictional novel; in fact, it is actually based on the real family experiences and life adventures of the author. There are just enough crossovers between what is real, with the imaged and fictional, to make the story very entertaining. The author weaves in poetry, tales, history and even old family letters to create a kaleidoscope of emotions and energy. It is a hard book to define because it is really pieces of many things and many stories and voices. Hesselbein pieces them together like a master puzzle maker; each story, although separate and seemingly unconnected at times, do fit together and create a total concept story. On a side note, his father who worked for the newspaper took the eye catching cover photo. There are other photos inside of various people and places, which at times adds some to the mystery of who they are. The book is an interesting look at a culture and times and places that are now no longer around. This book is a serious work and it is a shame that the author (due to his illnesses) has not been out and about to market this book. This is one of those undiscovered gems that if you are really lucky enough to find that you should buy and read. You will have to search to find it but it will be well worth your effort. The American Authors Association gives this book its top rating!
