Corey Lynn Fayman’s murder mystery, “Black’s Beach Shuffle,” is a fast-paced thriller featuring a not-very-successful rock musician turned reluctant private detective. While trying to straighten himself out and escape from a downward spiral of booze and drugs, he is pulled into a strange case when alone, late at night, he finds a dead man floating in a swimming pool. Soon he’s drawn into a high-tech world of startup dot-coms, stock manipulation, and investor fraud where he finds he can’t trust anyone, even his best friend. This story also provides a virtual Frommer’s guide through San Diego, California, from upscale, seaside La Jolla, to the mean streets in less refined parts of town. “Black’s Beach Shuffle” is a fast and satisfying ride, well worth the trip.
