Title: Dare to Dream! 25 Extraordinary Lives Author: Sandra McLeod Humphrey Publisher: Prometheus Books Reviewer: Karl L. Kruger – AAA Member Reviewer This book is a wonderful Who’s-Who of influential people of world history. Humphrey lists childhood heroes from Abraham Lincoln to Maya Angelou and from Albert Einstein to Michael Jordan. The author even introduces the reader to some lesser known heroes such as Nellie Bly and Chien-Shiung Wu. Each profile is succinct, focusing on each person’s life as a child, then their life as an adult, and finally ending with a moving quote. In this world, where children’s heroes are all too often imaginary, McLeod gives us an impressive list of true heroes from whom children can find real inspiration.
Reviewer: Molly Williams – AAA Guest Reviewer *Molly Williams is an elementary school district counselor. As a school counselor I am always looking for practical materials to use with my students in my work with them individually, in small groups, or as a whole class. Dare to Dream is a wonderful resource that highlights the lives of people throughout history and how they overcame obstacles to reach their life goals. This book can be used with students who are struggling with self-esteem, anger management, goal-setting, in addition to a wide range of other issues. The best lessons learned are those from others’ life experiences and that is what this book provides
