Author: Sewall Menzel Title: Dictators, Drugs & Revolution: Cold war Campaigning in Latin America 1965-1989 Publisher: Authorhouse Reviewer: W. H. McDonald, Jr. – AAA Founder Insightful Memoir on Cold War Action in Latin American Author Sewall Menzel has put together the ultimate gold standard textbook memoir for what the cold war was really like in Latin America. He discusses and talks about policy, actions and events in his insightful book “Dictators, Drugs & Revolution: Cold War Campaigning in Latin America 1965-1989.” His experiences in the military and all his assignments across Central and South America really give the reader a wide view from one of those who were there. It is a rare history that is virtually unexplored and rarely written about and certainly there are no other books as complete as this book is. The author had to confront drug-traffickers and revolutionaries and all sorts of unsavory people in the course of his military career. His experiences are most unusual and not many people will be able to relate to them. That is why his personal memoirs are important to an over-all understanding of that time and place in our world and national history. It is well written and in a narrative form that is filled with lots of data and facts. This book should be required reading at our war colleges and OCS training classes. It is a fascinating look at a world that is little understood.
