Title: Edges, O Israel O Palestine Author: Leora Skolkin-Smith Publisher: Glad Day Reviewer: Marilyn Meredith – AAA Member Superbly written, this book brings the world of pre-1967 Israel and Palestine to life as seen through the eyes of a fourteen-year-old girl. After the suicide of her American father, Liana’s mother takes her two daughters back to Jerusalem where she was born and grew up. The author has a gift with words and the ability to describe a part of the world that is no longer the same, and in fact, is ever-changing. In some ways the story reminded me of The Kite Runner with its ability to open the readers eyes to a different time, a country divided, and more than one culture. Though the novel speaks of the political tensions of the time-period, it is also a poignant story of a young girl’s relationship with her mother and her development into womanhood. Highly recommended.
