Author: Karen Pavlicin Title: Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow’s Nest Publisher: Elva Resa Publishing Reviewer: W. H. McDonald, Jr. – AAA Founder Great Children’s Book For 9-14 year Olds! Sometimes a good little book goes unnoticed by the reading public. It would be a shame if great children’s books like “Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow’s Nest” were lost on some bookstore shelf gathering dust because it is a very worthy book for any young reader to add to their book collection. Author Karen Pavlicin weaves a gentle story that slides in some very good messages without being too blatant. Her story and plot are aimed at young readers – although a young minded adult might enjoy reading it as well. The characters are well defined and interesting. The book will capture the attention of both boys and girls. If you are a parent, a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle or just someone who has a special young person in their life then this would make a great gift. No batteries or instructions needed – just place the book in their hands and they are ready to roll.
Reviewer: Joe Fabel – AAA Vice President “It’s not about the apples” just about sums up this delightful book of a young boy discovering the many shades of meaning in growing up. His household preserves love, concern, kindness and support, although it physically moves location once in a while. Growing up is most difficult; however, with a mom, grandmother, neighbor (Mrs. Sackets, of course) along with nurturing friends - all turns out fine. Andy discovers meaning in mundane tasks assigned by mom and grandmother; their guidance is often subtle yet full of promise and hope. This is a story for “every person” because it fully incorporates the maxim that life’s experiences, as identified by those who truly love us, are the necessary mortar for building true character. It is a delightful and informative read.
